As the architectural metal products industry continued to grow and mature, it was obvious they needed a stronger position with the general contracting market. This lead to a partnership with D&D Roofing and the ability to provide all inclusive bids. By 1997, D&D Monarch Sheet Metal, Inc. was established.

His dad’s company, founded in the late fifties, did ductwork, ornamental ironwork and specialty sheet metal products. When LaMar came to Las Vegas in nineteen eighty nine, he spent six years working for a company who was one of the first sheet metal contractors in the area to become a Berridge Licensee. LaMar quickly realized the potential of architectural sheet metal and founded Noorda Sheet Metal Company in 1994. Since then, the Las Vegas area has grown at a phenomenal rate. Most of Noorda Sheet Metal Company’s work is in the commercial infrastructure rather than the large hotels and casinos.

- [Berridge Byline – Winter 2005](https://www.berridge.com/berridge-byline-winter-2005/): Metalmaster started as a sheet metal fabrication company in a small garage in 1977. From those humble beginnings, the company has expanded its capabilities to include architectural metal roofing and panels, rubber roofing and related roofing products such as the very successful Sno-Gem line of snow guards. George and Gloria Smeja founded the company on Christian beliefs, strong family ties and an uncompromising commitment to service and quality. Sons Michael and Daniel Smeja grew up in the business and now serve as vice presidents and partners in the business.
- [Berridge Byline – Summer/Fall 2005](https://www.berridge.com/berridge-byline-summerfall-2005/): Ivan Mangold likes to talk about the early days when Turner Roofing still used wood-fired kettles on their tar and gravel built-up roofs in the San Antonio area during the twenties and thirties. He says, “Back then the wood-fired kettle trucks would travel down Houston Avenue in San Antonio, and the street was paved with wooden blocks and the live coals from the kettle would fall onto the street — they had to carry drums of water to extinguish the fire or the street would catch fire!” Ivan went to work for Turner when he was a teenager and later, when he returned home from serving in the Army during World War II, he purchased the company from its founders, Arch and William Turner.
- [Berridge Byline – Spring 2005](https://www.berridge.com/berridge-byline-spring-2005/): Kirtley Sheet Metal was founded in 1981 by Philip Kirtley. The company installed built-up roofing, mainly for commercial buildings in the Houston area. Upon forming his own company, Philip began a transition into the relatively new field on standing seam metal roofing. The trend of metal roofing was rapidly growing stronger in the Houston area and Berridge Manufacturing Company, founded in 1970, was establishing a reputation as a leader in the relatively new field of architectural metal roofing. Kirtley Sheet Metal began to install various types of metal roofing, including some aluminum shake shingle jobs using Berridge products.
- [Berridge Byline – Fall 2004](https://www.berridge.com/berridge-byline-fall-2004/): Saucier Brothers Roofing, which spans three generations, was founded in 1945 by Clement Saucier and his two brothers, Cotton and Bennie. The seed money for the new business was saved by Clement while he served in the U.S. Army in Europe during World War II. While there, Clement took part in the invasion of Normandy and later was awarded the Bronze Star. The company started out crafting sheet metal conveyors, fuel tanks and shelling equipment (called “shrimp pickers”) for the Mississippi Gulf Coast shrimping industry. Widespread damage to sheet metal roofing caused by the hurricane of 1947 prompted Saucier Brothers to focus their attention on metal roofing repairs and installation. This would set the trend for the next fifty plus years for Saucier Brothers Roofing.
- [Berridge Byline – Summer 2003](https://www.berridge.com/berridge-byline-winter-2003/): Brinkmann Roofing Company has been active in commercial and residential roofing since the company was founded in 1971 by Mike Brinkmann. Since that time, Brinkmann Roofing has grown to be the largest residential roofing company in the state of Texas and the eighteenth largest in the nation. The fastest growing segment of Brinkmann’s commerical roofing market is metal roofing.
- [Berridge Byline – Spring 2003](https://www.berridge.com/berridge-byline-spring-2003/): Sheet Metal Masters, Inc. was founded in 1994 by Billy and Vivian Cockrell and for the past nine and a half years the company has specialized in architectural metal roofing, metal soffit, metal wall panels, metal retrofit and metal structures. Billy and Vivian credit their growth and success to teamwork and safety awareness. Sheet Metal Masters’ commitment to safety lead to their being awarded the “Sustained Superior Safety Performance Award” from the Mobile, AL District/South Atlantic Division of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for the 4th quarter of 2002. Much of Sheet Metal Masters’ work is done on military bases throughout the Florida panhandle region, and their jobsite practices are required to meet high safety and quality standards.
- [Berridge Byline – Winter 2002](https://www.berridge.com/berridge-byline-winter-2002/): When John Davis founded Air Systems in 1974, the company specialized in HVAC services. During the next twenty- seven years Air Systems would grow from a small firm with only two employees to one of California’s largest companies with offices in San Jose, San Leandro, Santa Rosa and Sacramento. In addition to its HVAC mechanical services, Air Systems added mechanical and electrical contracting, process piping, service repair and architectural sheet metal to its list of products and services. In February 2000, Air Systems, along with several other sister companies was merged into Encompass, a 3.8 billion dollar provider of total facilities solutions and services.
- [Berridge Byline – Fall 2002](https://www.berridge.com/berridge-byline-fall-2002/): C.A.S.S. Sheet Metal Specialists, was incorporated in 1990. Partners Glenn Parvin and Chet Klos wanted to create a company to market and specialize in custom sheet metal work. Today the name C.A.S.S. Sheet Metal is one of the most respected companies doing architectural sheet metal work in the state of Michigan.
- [Berridge Byline – Summer 2002](https://www.berridge.com/berridge-byline-summer-2002/): Nu-Tec Roofing Contractors, Inc. was founded in 1984 in Indianapolis, Indiana by Mike Hutchings with Bruce Bubenzer and Dorwin Burdine. By 1995 Nu-Tec had become one of the ten largest commercial/industrial roofing companies in the U.S. In 2000, Nu-Tec, along with six sister roofing companies formed New Millennium Roofing, Inc. Nu-Tec’s rapid growth has been spurred by their commitment to providing the best in customer service combined with a willingness to tackle the most complex projects such as those pictured in this issue of the Berridge BYLINE. As Steve Kruse comments: “The flexibility of the Berridge Program and products has positioned Nu-Tec to successfully handle complex jobs that others are reluctant to even consider!”
- [Berridge Byline – Spring 2002](https://www.berridge.com/berridge-byline-spring-2002/): Founded in 1991, Roof Technologies is a very young company when compared to many of its peers. At the time of its founding, Roof Technologies had only three employees and no revenue. Eleven years later, the company had grown to be the largest roofing company in Louisiana according to Roof Technologies President Bill Luebbert.
- [Berridge Byline – Summer 2001](https://www.berridge.com/berridge-byline-summer-2001/): Holland Roofing was founded by Hans Philippo in 1986. At that time the company had ten employees and less than two million dollars in revenues. Today, Holland Roofing Group has eleven offices, employs over two hundred people and have revenues in excess of thirty million dollars. The company has experienced phenomenal growth during the past few years, with revenues up eighty-three percent in 1997 over 1996. The Holland Roofing Group is the 13th largest roofing company in the United States and ranks among the Top 100 specialty contractors according to Engineering News Record magazine (ENR).
- [Berridge Byline – Spring 2001](https://www.berridge.com/berridge-byline-spring-2001/): Together, Dick Goske and George Frey, partners in F.G. Metals have more than eighty-two years of experience in metal siding, roofing and framing systems. Dick Goske has more than forty-five years in construction. He began as a structural fabricator and erector for Wisconsin Bridge & Iron and has owned his own business since age twenty-eight, specializing in steel siding, roofing and framing. George Frey’s thirty years’ construction experience includes concrete and framework, design/build general contracting, steel siding, roofing and framing, with twelve years as owner of his own firm. Twenty-five years ago, Dick and George formed a partnership in the Milwaukee, Wisconsin area, and relocated to Florida in nineteen eighty-four.
- [Berridge Byline – Summer 2000](https://www.berridge.com/berridge-byline-summer-2000/): Scott Enterprises began in 1981 as a roofing contractor specializing in flexible sheet rubber roofing systems. When founder Don Seaton saw the rising popularity and market potential of architectural metal roofing, he, along with his son Scott and Tim Wood, ventured into metal roofing with a bank project in 1988. Scott Seaton and Tim Wood also set up a sheet metal shop operation to fabricate coping, flashing, trim and other sheet metal components.
- [Berridge Byline – Spring 2000](https://www.berridge.com/berridge-byline-spring-2000/): Mandal’s, Inc. began as a partnership between the late Frank F. Mandal and James A. Cooper, now retired. Founded in 1946, the Gulfport, Mississippi based contractor operated as Mandal’s Roofing and Sheetmetal Works until Mr. Mandal’s death in 1963 when the firm was incorporated as Mandal’s, Inc. Through more than five decades of growth, Mandal’s has become one of the Gulf South’s leading roofing contractors.
- [Berridge Byline – Spring 1999](https://www.berridge.com/berridge-byline-spring-1999/): Although Metal Specialties is relatively young in terms of years in business, they have established an impressive record of constant growth and excellence in architectural metal panel installations. During the early nineteen eighties, Anthony Vento and Russell Deatonestablished a business partnership to fabricate and install tubular aluminum framed canvas-covered awnings and canopies. As design became more complex and larger in scale, heavier-gauge cold-formed steel framing was often required and frequently, a more durable facing material such as prefinished steel standing seam panels was specified. By the late nineteen eighties, design firms began to specify architectural standing seam panels for mansard and fascia systems and the two partners made the switch to metal.
- [Berridge Byline – Winter 1998](https://www.berridge.com/berridge-byline-winter-1998/): Shortly after being founded in 1975, Metal Systems Inc.began using Berridge aluminum shake shingles on convenience store mansard facades. Since then, the company has evolved into a specialty contracting firm, offering a broad range of products including composite panels, translucent wall panels, skylite systems, carport structures, light gage framing and other cladding and framing products.
- [Berridge Byline – Fall 1998](https://www.berridge.com/berridge-byline-fall-1998/): Although Orleans Sheet Metal Works and Roofing have been in business in New Orleans for over seventy years, the Schwander family tradition in metal working and “tin-smith” craft goes back many more years. Ancestor Baltazar Schwander left Germany where he had worked as a tin-smith to come to America in 1849. A century and a half later, the Schwander family continues to offer its clients expertly crafted metal roofing and accessories.
- [Berridge Byline – Spring 1998](https://www.berridge.com/berridge-byline-spring-1998/): Not long after Jim Byrne graduated from college in upstate New York in 1976, he set his sights on Houston, Texas because the booming economy there offered him a wide range of opportunities. The high volume of new construction in Houston attracted Byrne’s attention and his first job was with a firm involved in applying decorative sheet metal panels to mansard roofing and canopies. In just two years, Jim Byrne was ready to start his own company and in 1978 he founded Byrne Sheet Metal. Most of Byrne’s projects in those early years were metal shingle mansards on Pizza Huts and 7-11 convenience stores.
- [Berridge Byline – Fall 1997](https://www.berridge.com/berridge-byline-fall-1997/): Architectural Sheet Metal, Inc. of Orlando, Florida specializes in standing seam metal roof panels, soffit, fascia, siding and sheet metal fabrication. As a Licensee of Berridge Manufacturing Company, Architectural Sheet Metal has been able to complete a wide variety of high-visibility projects which feature site-formed standing seam roofing. The Berridge Total Program, which provides premium-quality prefinished coil, flat sheets, precision-tolerance site forming equipment and full design and engineering product support has given Architectural Sheet Metal the flexibility to respond quickly to last minute changes and short lead time projects. As Mike Leonard, President of Architectural Sheet Metal notes: “Site forming gives us more control — last minute changes don’t keep us from being able to proceed with fabrication.”

- [Become A Berridge Licensee](https://www.berridge.com/roll-formers/become-a-berridge-licensee/): By the early nineties it was evident that Berridge roof panels and their corresponding portable roll formers presented an outstanding opportunity for contractors to market site-formed roofing panels in both commercial and residential markets. In order to respond to this expanding demand, Berridge introduced its Licensee Program in 1992. Under the new Licensee program, Berridge began to sell or long-term lease many of its main line of portable roll formers. Machine owners, along with Long-term lessees, became referred to as “Licensees”. Along with the substantial benefits of being a Licensee which are described below, Berridge Licensees agree to the exclusive use of Berridge coil and accessories for the particular portable roll former which they own or lease. This is necessary in order for Berridge to fully support products manufactured by its Licensees. Although Berridge Licensees who long-term lease rather than purchase a Berridge portable roll former will receive the majority of the benefits of the Licensee Program, machine owners do have certain exclusive unique benefits and advantages as listed below.

- [Southernmost House](https://www.berridge.com/projects/southernmost-house/): Built in 1896 at a cost of $250,000, the Queen Anne-style mansion was originally the private residence of Judge Vining Harris. His wife, Florida Curry, was the youngest daughter of the state’s first millionaire William Curry. A prominent Florida family, the Curry’s built eight mansions within the Key West Historic District. Although the home was designed with only a single bedroom, it featured elegant public rooms, large stained glass windows to let in cool ocean breezes, and multi-story balconies offering dramatic ocean vistas. Mrs. Harris engaged Thomas Edison to oversee the installation of electric lighting, which was a novelty at the time. Investors in Henry Flagler’s overseas railroad, the family entertained the industrialist during the construction of this engineering marvel.
