SUMMER 1998

Twenty-five years ago, Jeff Sondrup began his career in metal construction. Prefinished steel panels, with their superior resistance to wind and snow loads, combined with a wide range of design appearance options, prompted Jeff to launch his career in metal roofing and sheet metal construction. His success over the past two and a half decades bears witness to the popularity and performance of architectural metal in the Colorado market.Left to Right: Anne Sondrup, Office Manager; Jeff Sondrup, Owner & President receive Berridge "Customer of Distinction Award from Alan Stovesand, Berridge Western Region Sales Manager.
Sondrups initial venture into metal was as a builder of pre-engineered systems buildings for a major manufacturer. In just a few years, Jeff realized that architects, specifiers and designers wanted greater flexibility in overall building design and they wanted to be able to specify metal roofing products which would enhance the appearance of their project. The answer to this need lay in architectural metal roofing, characterized by its clean lines and vertical standing seam legs.
By 1978, Sondrup Roofing and Sheet Metal had shifted their emphasis to offering custom sheet metal and trim and architectural prefinished metal roofing, siding and fascia products. In the early 1980s, when Berridge Manufacturing Company began to make its presence known in the Denver market, Sondrup began using Berridge panels exclusively. The growth catalyst which elevated Sondrup to a position of volume and quality leadership in their regional market was the introduction of Berridges site-forming program. Sondrup was one of the first roofing contractors in Colorado to acquire the newly-introduced Berridge Model SS-14 portable rollformer machine. This new machine gave Sondrup the strategic advantage of being able to offer both curved and straight standing seam panels in continuous, splice-free lengths. Equally important was the fact that the roofing panels furnished by Sondrup carried the full technical product support of Berridge Manufacturing Company and used genuine Berridge coil, accessories and components.
Sondrup moved into their present location in suburban Englewood, Colorado eleven years ago. The facility has grown to include over three thousand square feet of offices, eighteen hundred square feet of sheet metal fabrication and a nine thousand square foot staging yard. Sondrup employs forty workers on a permanent basis.
When asked about key ingredients in the success and rapid growth of his company, Jeff Sondrup explains that "The thing that has kept us competitive is our ability to control product quality and Berridges site-forming program and quality materials helps us do this."
