Turner Roofing, LTD:

Quality, Responsibility
and Integrity - Since 1914

Seated: Ivan Mangold, Retired; Standing, Left to Right: Tommy Mangold, Sr., President; Kristi Pittman, CFO; and Tommy Mangold, Jr., VP

Ivan Mangold likes to talk about the early days when Turner Roofing still used wood-fired kettles on their tar and gravel built-up roofs in the San Antonio area during the twenties and thirties. He says, "Back then the wood-fired kettle trucks would travel down Houston Avenue in San Antonio, and the street was paved with wooden blocks and the live coals from the kettle would fall onto the street -- they had to carry drums of water to extinguish the fire or the street would catch fire!" Ivan went to work for Turner when he was a teenager and later, when he returned home from serving in the Army during World War II, he purchased the company from its founders, Arch and William Turner. Turner Roofing started as a supplier of all types of roofing materials including gravel, sand, tar and shingles. When William Turner got out of the Army following World War I and joined the firm he started the Sheet Metal and Roofing division.

Today, Turner Roofing is owned by Ivan Mangold’s son Tommy Mangold Sr. and operated by his son Tommy Mangold, Jr. and daughter Kristi Pittman. Kyle Fiedler is vice president of operations and handles takeoffs, estimating and field operations. While half the company’s volume is modified bitumen, built-up and single-ply roofing, metal roofing is the fastest growing segment of the business.

Today, Turner Roofing Company uses a thirteen foot computerized RAS folding machine and a Berridge Cee-Lock Standing Seam CL-21 portable Roll Former in their roofing and sheet metal operation. As Tommy Mangold Jr. notes, the Berridge portable roll former enables them to control their production: "We can run continuous-length panels to the exact length required, thereby eliminating waste -- the savings goes to the owner, and we have complete control of the job!"

"We can run continuous-length panels to the exact length required, thereby eliminating waste -- the savings goes straight to the owner, and we have complete control of the job!"
